October Update: Partner With Us (Missions)

Living missionally, growing gracefully, and encouraging intentionally--all for the Glory of God.

Well hey! Kansas City temperatures are beginning to drop, which tells us the fall weather is coming in. If you are a Midwesterner, how are you feeling about that? Seasons are always changing; that is something we can attest to!

'Watering Seasons God Planted' is what I want to share with you about. Our family took a leap of faith two years ago, stepping into ministry full-time. Marquis took a role as the Executive Ministry Director with Grace Covenant International in 2024, and together, we planted Mission 418 Church in January of 2025, based in Grandview, Missouri.

If you know anything about planting a garden, you'd know that it takes putting seeds in the ground, watering, and waiting for something to grow. Something that we learned about planting our garden this year was that some vegetables grew that we were able to harvest, and there were others that did not. Despite the same soil conditions, you never know what will produce; you just remain consistent. Just like our garden, the life of ministry involves planting, watering, processing, and pruning.

What then is Apollos? What is Paul? They are servants through whom you believed, and each has the role the Lord has given. I planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the growth. So, then, neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth. 1 Corinthians 3:5-7

As we near the end of the year, we want to invite others to support our missional efforts. Planting Mission 418 Church has been both rewarding and challenging, as you might imagine when starting a new work! We’ve seen God do some amazing things and are still witnessing it in real time! For example, we’ve recently launched our Missio Dei Learning Academy, which serves as an enrichment program for local families with kids pre-K4 to 1st grade. We’re seeing families grow together and kids build relationships with one another as well.

We are constantly looking for ways to reach new families and meet the real felt need of those around us, and have opened our doors for bi-weekly Community Worship Nights. We have a heart to continue to grow and equip others to live on mission in healthy community. These past several months, the Lord has refreshed our vision and given us a renewed focus on how we advance and who we reach in the process. As we enter this new phase of our work, we are inviting others to partner with us in two ways:

  • Mission 418 Church Outreach — $3,500 fundraising goal: To support the continued growth of our ministry, including family enrichment, discipleship resources, and community outreach.
  • Family Mission Trip to Peru — January 2027 — $5,000 fundraising goal: To help cover the costs for our family to travel to Peru and serve on mission for one week in Iquitos, Peru. (Flights, Lodging, and Meals)

What your partnership means:

As these needs are met, we will be able to continue to expand and provide the following:

  • A nurturing environment for young children and families to thrive and learn
  • Worship and Bible resources that nurture spiritual growth
  • Community outreach that builds connection and belonging both locally and globally

Would you prayerfully consider partnering with us financially and in prayer? Whether it’s a one-time gift or monthly support, it makes a huge difference. All gifts directly support this work and the community we’re impacting. Either way, we appreciate your prayerful consideration!

How to Give Online:

We are thankful for hearts who have the capacity to pray, encourage, and support our family through missions. We know that God is always a supplier when it comes to His missional work; we cannot do this without Christ.

With Love,

Marquis & Makayla Harris

I’m not here to tell you to live on mission like our family, but I am here to encourage you that life on mission by faith is possible. We are here to champion you to live on mission! (Feel free to message me back anytime).

Marquis and Jaiden in the pregnancy center being rebuilt on the grounds of DR Missions in the Dominican Republic. (April of 2026). Have you ever had a season where you had to trust God in a greater way to rebuild after, during, and through life transitions, loss, or changes? I know I have--hence the reason why it has been so long since I have written a newsletter to share with you. To be honest, I...

Living missionally, growing gracefully, and encouraging intentionally--all for the Glory of God. Hey! I can't believe we are in the last day of 2025. Can I encourage you quickly? One of the things that I have learned this year is to pioneer and persevere through the guidance of the Holy Spirit; you can too in this upcoming year. Scripture encourages believers to fix our eyes on Jesus, who is the pioneer and perfecter of faith. "Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of...

Living missionally, growing gracefully, and encouraging intentionally--all for the Glory of God. Hey, how is your Monday? I wanted to pop in today as I was reflecting this morning about living on mission. Quite honestly, I want to bring a challenge to hearts that are open to my words shared today. So, the question I have is: have you considered how God desires for you to live on mission in this season of your life? How are you preparing your heart and hands to make an impact on others around...
